Westside meeting rallies residents
Tired of crime, neighbors may start watch program.

The recreation room at Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira was filled Wednesday night with Near Westside neighbors intending to take back their community.
The gathering, which drew more than 100 people, was called by the Near Westside Neighborhood Association with the stated purpose of investigating the feasibility of starting a Neighborhood Watch program, said Beth Farr, the association's executive director, at the beginning of the meeting.

Adkins, pastor of First Jordan Grove Baptist Church, plans to ask ministers of other churches to join him in this and other initiatives when they meet at 8:30 a.m. today at St. Mark's Episcopal Church downtown, to discuss a crime wave that has seen home invasions and a total of 10 homicides this year.
